Ruth Ablan, M.A. CMHC is a Bilingual Professional Counselor working towards her LPC licensure with a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology.Ruth has over 10 years of experience working with individuals from various cultural backgrounds and having different values and beliefs. Ruth began her career as a Reiki Master and Life Coach. She went on to work directly with children, adolescents, and adults having co-occurring mental health issues such as anxiety and depression disorders, ADHD/ADD, substance abuse, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) and other behavioral issues, LGBTQI+ related issues, domestic violence, trauma, crisis, suicide and bereavement, grief and loss, dissociative disorders, relationship issues, impulsiveness, anger management, and more as she completed her graduate program. She currently works with survivors of domestic violence at the Laurel House in Montgomery County, promoting self-empowerment and self-discovery through individual and group counseling services. As she continued to work for the Laurel House, she gained experience working as an Outpatient School-Based Therapist and Supervisor for a school district in Berks County. In addition, Ruth has additional expertise in areas of mindfulness, Reiki, meditation, and breath work.
Ruth is currently being trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). Ruth’s plan is to pursue specializations in Traumatology and Somatic Psychotherapy within the next two years. Although Ruth integrates different modalities into sessions to tailor each individual client’s specific needs and preferences, Ruth uses a holistic person-centered approach. During sessions, Ruth primarily focuses on a trauma-informed Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy modality to work on strategies for connecting emotions and feelings to past stressful and/or traumatic events, addressing root causes of triggers, presenting issues/concerns, and strengthen positive social connections as well as increase self-awareness, self-love, gratitude, self-esteem, and overall well-being. Ruth believes that understanding the mind-body connection can bring about positive changes in one’s life. Ruth encourages and teaches her clients to focus on maintaining the present state of being, while increasing feelings of gratitude to promote healing within oneself and an improved quality of life.
Ruth engages in continuing professional education in accordance with the requirements for licensure towards her LPC license. Ruth is also a long standing member of the American Counseling Association. She lives with her two children, 9-year old and 11-year old boys. She loves to play video games/board games with her children, go for runs on the treadmill, practice yoga, meditate, spend time outdoors, play sports with the kids, and spend time with family.
